The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France and was put in place on October 28th, 1886. It was originally known as Liberty Enlightening the World and has since become one of the national symbols for the country. If you're visiting New York City than you have the option of viewing the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park, taking the ferry around the island, or stopping on Liberty Island to get a closer view. If you're a fan of boating on the Trent Severn Waterway to the ocean than you will likely want to pay to take the full tour. Once you have paid for the ferry there is no additional charge for getting off at Liberty Island.
