With many fulltime jobs you are offered a number of days during the year where you are permitted to take vacation while still receiving your regular wage. You could use that time away from work where you check valves or take care of children to travel abroad, visit family in another city, or stay at home and get some things done that you don't have time for normally. When you're taking a job you should consider the number of hours or days that you are offered in a year and how you are going to use them to the best advantage.

Most people start out with two weeks of vacation time every year. Added responsibility usually means that you are entitled to more vacation time. The longer you work with the same company the more time off you will usually get throughout the year. If you're not offered vacation days than you should be getting a four percent increase on each of your paychecks. This is called vacation pay and is meant to provide you with extra income if you choose to take some time away from work. While you will not be getting your regular wage while you're skiing in Aspen or seeing some Broadway shows here in New York it is supposed that in the long run you are receiving the money that you would during this time.
